Back from the dead
I have not written anything new in a long time. Things have been chaotic at home. We are in the process of moving. And by “in the process” I mean awaiting formalities to be completed for months now. Things that should have been over last year are still dragging on and on. Not to mention that our son is at home because his school transfer is yet to be finalized. The quiet hours reserved for my writing have morphed into the loud but happy chaos of afternoon tea parties and lightsaber practice sessions.
Sadly enough, writing and mayhem do not share the same zip code. So this blog and my writing both suffered an untimely, prolonged break. Until now.
The good news is that in the process of resolving the chaos in my headspace, I figured out the word I want to adopt this year as my mantra. And, bam! The writer in me is back from the dead to talk about it.
What is your conscious intention this year?
At the beginning of 2017, I adopted “FEARLESS“ as my intention. When I chose that word, it was more as a goal and spotlight to my writing. But boy, do wishes have a way of getting fulfilled and spilling over! I not only became fearless in my writing and experimented with it to my heart’s content, but became more assertive in real life as well. I stopped apologizing to people for my need for solitude (and actually thriving in it!), for my disdain for small talk and big parties, and for simply being the way that I am. In adopting the mantra of fearlessness, I ended up becoming more comfortable in my own skin.
Owning up to my personality and shifting my perspective to see it as a strength instead of weakness has been liberating. In the process of giving myself permission to be fearless, I ended up discovering and connecting with like-minded people and websites, all adopting and promoting the quiet way of living in various nooks and crannies of the internet. This has been illuminating, to say the least! 🙂
So this year, I thought I would give the “word thing” another try. This is especially potent considering the shifting grounds I have found myself on over these last couple of months. Well laid plans have gone to dust. Delays and uncertainty have become the norm of the day. And the control-freak in me has felt helpless, having to abdicate its illusion of power over and over again. So, this year I am choosing a word that will help me navigate the disarray and better manage my expectations in face of these turbulent conditions (which I believe will continue for the next few months as well).
My word for 2018
“FLOW” is my word for 2018. Flow, like water. Like the wind. Free, uninhibited, unburdened.
Because water and wind do not resist. They simply find another path to move, in the face of obstacles. They are flexible. But in no way, weak, nor helpless. And that is the beauty of flow. Flow lets you accept the things beyond your control as they come, and frees your mind from the negative connotations of anger, frustration, and powerlessness. And that is what I wish to consciously manifest into my life this year.
2018 is a year of change for us as a family. Moving to a new place is always difficult. But it is exciting too! So by adopting a “go with the flow” approach, I wish to be ready and flexible for the numerous changes that are going to come our way sooner or later. Meanwhile, during this transit phase, I wish to be relaxed and enjoy all the extra time I am getting with our son to the fullest and be in the moment, instead of stressing over the future.
Flow is the opposite of stagnation. With respect to my writing, this translates to a wish to keep writing even when the words come slow and get interrupted every now and then. I hope not to stop, not take terribly long breaks, and finally, not to give up when a surge becomes a trickle. The topics do not matter as long as I make an effort to do it regularly and just keep flowing and keep moving forward.
Before signing off, here are some highlights of what 2017 has meant for my writing. Thank you for supporting me this far and I hope, we will continue to vibe and flowing together down the rabbit hole.
