An ode to F.R.I.E.N.D.S

I wonder which friend am I?

Some days I am Chandler

Funny and sarcastic as hell,

But no one gets my jokes.

No, not really.

Some days I am Rachel

Confused where I am

And where I wanna be.

Some days I am Ross

Intelligent yet socially awkward.

I fail more than I succeed

Still, my sadnesses are filled

With hope for better tomorrows.

Some days I am Joey

Blissfully uncomplicated.

Simple. Straight from the heart.

Some days I am Phoebe

Eccentric, free-spirited.

A duck in the water,

All in, but never wet.

Am I Monica ever? I wonder

I am not a neat freak!

No never.

But I do have this urge

To align picture frames

To obsess over the pretties and the perfects

The straight, clean lines.

So which F.R.I.E.N.D am I?

May be a fraction of them all

Or none at all.

Perhaps like that dark fan theory

I am just Phoebe’s meth-addled dream

Watching people live

Through Central Perk’s window.

Fantasizing,

Hoping to fit right in

Yet wondering what is better?

“Daring to walk past the door

To soak the good and the bad

Or staying put where I belong –

In my head.”
