About This Series
“Free e-book of the week” combines two of my favorite things – Books and Free 😉 This is my way of nudging the hibernating (ahem! to be honest, almost on the verge of a coma) bookworm in me (and hopefully in many other parents out there like me) out of slumber and back into the reading habit. Through this series, I hope to introduce good e-books and authors to FertileBrains Readers and in the process re-ignite my and others love for books. I will be talking mostly about children’s books and parenting books in this series but may digress from time to time to include any other interesting reads I may encounter on the way.
The Unmumsy Mums
Last week, I promised to review a grown-up book, so here I am with this hysterical collection of anecdotes from parents about their epic parenting fails and wise quips from their little ones. Named “The Unmumsy Mums“, this light read comprising less than 40 pages is a good way to unwind with a hearty laugh (and a cup of tea/coffee) whenever the “job” of parenting is bogging you down. So grab your drink of choice and download it for free today on Amazon.
For the uninitiated, Kindle e-books are not just for reading them through your Kindle reader. You can read them even if you do not own a kindle. Any phone, tablet or PC can be used for reading these e-books by installing the corresponding app for free on your respective devices. Please refer to this link for more information and download options.
About The Book
Sarah, the author of famous UK parenting blog, The Unmumsy Mum, compiled this hilarious collection from reader submissions to her blog and social media over the course of a year. As she puts it herself, “I have spent many an evening over the past year absolutely howling with laughter at all the comments and messages received via my blog and social media pages. The Facebook page, in particular, has become a place for mums and dads to share their hilarious stories about the reality of life with children. I was confident that there would be further undiscovered gems out there – hysterical things that children have said, embarrassing things that they have done – so I invited my followers to send their own tales to me. This is a collection of the best of those stories”.
This book is perfect for parents to remind them that they are not alone in their epic fails. Also, by virtue of being a light read, it doesn’t require too much time or concentration – commodities which are quite scarce in the parenting universe.
- Almost every story will have you in splits, so do watch out for your guffaws, especially if you are reading this book in public.
- Though all the stories have universal appeal, being predominantly UK based, the language used in the book (A few terms and phrases every now and then) need some familiarity with UK English.
- Love the fact that all anecdotes in the book stand on their own and almost all of them are hardly half a page long. So you can pick this book up for a quick 5-minute reading session as well as a half-an-hour session…although chances are, once you’ve started reading, you will only put it down after finishing the book!
- This book is quite short (barely 40 pages cover-to-cover) and so keeps you wanting more.
About The Unmumsy Mum
Author/Blogger Sarah Turner started her blog “The Unmumsy Mum” after becoming disillusioned reading other online parenting literature, most of which seemed to gloss over the difficult parts of parenting. As she put it herself “This blog is my collection of honest and occasionally sweary outpourings about life as a mum (the predominant theme being ‘Isn’t this hard?’)”. Her blog and her subsequent book with the same name have taken the internet by storm and her book is a Sunday Times Bestseller.
